Alexis Cuello to Monterrey

Quiet since 14 July 2026. Last report: German Garcia Grova. Probability when it went quiet: 10%.

Monterrey are working to sign Alexis Cuello, the 26-year-old Argentine attacker, from San Lorenzo. The talks are about a permanent transfer, and they are described as being in their final phase, with the two clubs sorting out the last details. The fee under discussion sits between €3m and €5m, broadly in line with Cuello's market value of around €5m. No fee has been agreed yet, and there is no setback either. His contract with San Lorenzo runs until the end of 2027, so this is a straight purchase rather than a free. The key voice here is Cesar Luis Merlo, a reliable reporter, who has the negotiations 'muy avanzadas' and in their closing stage. Beyond him, the picture is thinner: some of the reporting comes from a lesser source, so this rests largely on one strong account rather than a wall of corroboration. Call it against the odds for now. The talks are advanced, which is encouraging, but nothing is locked. For it to complete, Monterrey and San Lorenzo need to close the gap on the fee and finalise the details. Talleres are also in the frame, which gives San Lorenzo options and Monterrey a reason to move quickly. Monterrey have form at this price point. They paid €2m for a player from Inter Bogotá in 2024, and €2m from CD América in 2021. A fee near €4m for Cuello would be a touch above their usual outlay but hardly out of character. Watch for a fee being agreed between the clubs. That is the trigger that turns advanced talks into a deal, and it is the piece still missing.
