Anton Gaaei to Sassuolo

Sassuolo are working on Anton Gaaei, the 23-year-old Denmark right-back, as a target they first tracked back in the winter window. The Serie A side have made him one name on their list, but this is early-stage interest rather than active talks. Gaaei is under contract at Ajax until June 2028, and any deal is being framed around a fee somewhere between £3.6m and £5.1m. He is not short of admirers either, with Eintracht Frankfurt also credibly in the picture. The link comes from Gianluca Di Marzio, a well-regarded Italian voice who reports that Sassuolo "lavora per prendere" Gaaei. That is one solid source rather than a chorus. For now it stands as a single report, so treat it as a genuine lead that has not yet been corroborated elsewhere. This is a long shot as things stand. For it to move forward, Sassuolo would need to turn admiration into a concrete offer that Ajax accept, and they would have to see off Frankfurt, who currently look the stronger threat for the player. Nothing here is broken, but nothing is advanced either. The money would be in keeping with how Sassuolo do business. They paid Torino £4m in 2026, Genoa £4m in 2023, and Grêmio £4m in 2021, all in the same bracket. Gaaei himself cost Ajax £4m from Viborg FF in 2023, so this sits right on his established value. Watch for a first formal bid, or for Frankfurt firming up and closing the door. Either would settle which way this drifts.
