Azzedine Ounahi to Ajax

Quiet since 28 August 2026. Last report: Santi Aouna. Probability when it went quiet: 5%.

Azzedine Ounahi's move to Ajax has picked up pace again. Girona have given the midfielder permission to travel to Amsterdam to negotiate terms, though Santi Aouna reports other clubs are still chasing the same deal. That follows weeks of quieter background talks, with Ajax trying to negotiate down from Girona's €25m release clause towards a fee nearer €11m to €16m. Ounahi, 26, is under contract at Girona until 2030, so any deal hinges on Ajax getting the number low enough for both sides to sign off. The story has been carried by a solid spread of voices. Fabrizio Romano broke the original talks and confirmed the release clause detail, and his track record here carries real weight. Santi Aouna's update on the Amsterdam trip adds a fresh, credible layer, while Gianluigi Longari flagged interest from Al Ittihad and described Ajax's position as close to an agreement. Marc Mechenoua's contribution, focused on what Marseille might recoup, is a useful side note rather than a central pillar. Right now this sits as a long shot rather than a live certainty. Girona's asking price is well above what Ajax have discussed paying, and competing suitors mentioned by Aouna complicate things further. For this to complete, Ajax need to land on a number Girona will accept, likely well under the €25m clause, and see off any rival move before Ounahi's travel plans turn into a signed deal. Ajax have paid similar money before for players in this bracket: €16m for a São Paulo signing in 2020 and €14m for a Man City U21 arrival in 2023. A fee in the €11m to €16m range would sit comfortably alongside
