Balázs Tóth to Celtic

Quiet since 17 August 2026. Last report: Anthony Joseph. Probability when it went quiet: 10%.

Celtic have been looking at goalkeeping options to back up Viljami Sinisalo, their current No1, and Balázs Tóth has emerged as one name on their list. Talks were held with Blackburn Rovers last week over the Hungary international, but those discussions have not produced a bid. Tóth remains under contract at Blackburn until the summer of 2027, and nothing suggests he is pushing for an exit. The story so far rests on one source. Anthony Joseph, rated highly credible at 89 out of 100, broke the news of the talks on 17 August 2026. No second outlet has corroborated it yet, so this sits as a single strong link rather than a story with wide backing. Right now this looks a long shot. Talks without a bid usually mean early exploration rather than genuine intent, and Celtic would need to convince themselves Tóth offers enough over other options before committing money. Blackburn have no obvious reason to sell a goalkeeper with a year and a half plus left on his deal unless the price suits them. Until an offer lands, this stays speculative. Celtic have paid for goalkeepers before. They brought in a keeper from Suwon Bluewings for €3m, signed one from FC Groningen for €3m back in 2013, paid Melbourne City €2m in 2023, and took a goalkeeper from Dundee FC for €2m. Against that pattern, Tóth's roughly €1m valuation would be modest business for Celtic if it ever gets moving. Watch for whether Celtic follow up their talks with an actual bid. Until Blackburn receive a formal offer, or reject one, this stays firmly in rumour territory.
