Başar Önal to Lille

Quiet since 8 July 2026. Last report: Fabrice Hawkins. Probability when it went quiet: 79%.

Lille are moving for NEC Nijmegen's Başar Önal, the 21-year-old Netherlands midfielder, and the live picture is encouraging from the French end. Lille are already understood to have an agreement in principle with the player on personal terms, leaving the deal to hinge on club-to-club negotiation. NEC are holding out for around £6m, with the talked-about fee sitting somewhere between £4.1m and £6m against a market value near £3m. Önal, contracted until June 2028, is coming off a productive campaign of nine goals and nine assists in 34 matches. The sourcing here is solid. The link was carried by RMC, a benchmark French outlet, only hours ago, and corroborated by Fabrice Hawkins two days earlier, both highly reliable voices. Hawkins reported the contractual agreement with the player and the ongoing club talks, while RMC framed the move as a transfer in progress. This is not a thin single link but a story backed by two trusted names. The chance is genuinely in the balance. The player's side appears settled, which is half the battle, but the gap between NEC's asking price and what Lille want to pay is the sticking point. Bridge that fee and this completes comfortably; fail to, and it stalls. The money is squarely in keeping with how Lille do business. They paid £5m to bring a player from FC Groningen, and £5m to sign from Rosenborg BK in 2025. On the selling side, NEC banked £4m sending a player to Copenhagen in 2024. Watch for NEC accepting a bid in the £6m region, that, or a medical being booked, would tip this over.
