Brenner to Columbus Crew
Quiet since 25 July 2026. Last report: Vene Casagrande. Probability when it went quiet: 6%.
Columbus Crew have gone to Brenner's representatives to register their interest in the 26-year-old Brazilian, and the message so far has been clear: this would be a loan from Vasco da Gama, not a permanent purchase. That loan-only stance has not gone down well with the player's agents. Vasco, for their part, are open to letting him leave, and Brenner himself would relish a return to MLS, a league he knows well. Several offers have been made. As things stand, though, the deal is not happening. The reporting is strong. Tom Bogert, a well-sourced and reliable voice on MLS business, has it directly from sources, corroborated by Vene Casagrande on the Brazilian side. Both landed the story on the same day and their accounts line up neatly, which lends it weight even at this early stage. This is a long shot for now. The appetite exists on three sides, the player, the selling club and the buyer, yet the structure is the sticking point. Columbus want a loan; the agents do not, and until someone shifts on that the move stays stuck. Brenner took a pay cut to join Vasco, so his willingness is not in doubt. The terms are. Brenner knows this path well. He left São Paulo for Cincinnati for €12m in 2021, moved on to Udinese for €11m in 2023, then joined Vasco da Gama for €5m. Columbus themselves paid €7m to sign from Tigres UANL in 2020. A loan sits well below any of those figures. Watch for movement on the deal's shape. If Columbus soften on the loan-only stance, or add an option to buy, the talks come alive again.
