Charlie Cresswell to Rennes

Quiet since 1 August 2026. Last report: David Ornstein. Probability when it went quiet: 8%.

Rennes are pushing to sign Charlie Cresswell from Toulouse, and the two French clubs are deep in negotiations. The reported terms sit around €25m plus €3m in bonuses, which lines up with a fee being discussed somewhere between €21m and €25m. Cresswell, 23, is under contract at Toulouse until June 2028, so there is no urgency forced on the selling side. Rennes are said to have moved ahead of Crystal Palace and feel confident, though a gap on the fee still needs closing. No rejection has been reported. The story comes from Santi Aouna, a reasonably reliable voice rather than a benchmark name, carrying a credibility of 72 out of 100. His two posts on 3 July say the same thing, so this is essentially one source repeated rather than corroborated across several desks. Treat it as a solid single link, not a wall of confirmation. The chance here is against the odds for now. Talks are genuinely engaged and Rennes are keen, but the fee gap is real and Toulouse hold the cards with three years left on the deal. For this to complete, Rennes need to bridge the money, and Palace need to stay out of it. Rennes have spent at this level before. They paid Nice €28m in 2022 and Anderlecht €26m in 2020, so a fee near €25m fits their pattern. Cresswell himself arrived at Toulouse from Leeds for just €5m in 2024, making this a tidy profit. Watch for an accepted bid, or for Palace firming up as a rival.
