Cristian Romero to Inter

Quiet since 5 August 2026. Last report: Gianluigi Longari. Probability when it went quiet: 85%.

Cristian Romero wants to leave Tottenham for Inter Milan, and talks between the clubs have been running for some weeks. The sticking point right now is the fee. Sacha Tavolieri reported on 4 August that Inter are unwilling to meet Spurs' €50m asking price, with the Italian side's ceiling sitting around €40m. Romero himself is keen on the move, and the player's salary has not been a significant obstacle, with the Argentine asking for the same wages he currently earns in north London. The sourcing on this one is substantial. Fabrizio Romano, the most credible voice in the chain, reported on 3 August that Inter expect to make a final call soon and that there are no issues on the fee from Spurs' perspective, which sits in mild tension with Tavolieri's later note on Inter's reluctance. Alfredo Pedullà corroborated progress on personal terms from 31 July, and Gianluigi Longari had earlier established the €40m ballpark as the working basis. Four credible reporters across Italy and the UK are all pointing at the same deal. The move is finely balanced. Romero is willing, Spurs know where Inter stand, and the salary is broadly agreed. The single live obstacle is a €10m gap between what Spurs want and what Inter will pay. Spurs hold real leverage: Romero is contracted until 2029, so there is no urgency on their side to discount. One or two other clubs are reportedly monitoring the situation, which adds pressure on Inter to move. Watch for Inter either raising their offer toward Spurs' €50m valuation or Spurs blinking and accepting something closer to €40m. A competing bid firming up f
