Daniel Sales to Porto

Porto have made a formal offer to sign Daniel Sales, the 20-year-old Flamengo right-back, and Flamengo have rejected it. The Portuguese club's bid, understood to cover of Sales's economic rights at a reported €5m, has been turned down by the Rio club's board. Porto manager Leonardo Jardim has also acknowledged publicly that his club's preference is for a loan arrangement, a structure Flamengo are unwilling to accept. Sales is contracted until the end of 2028, and Flamengo are under no pressure to sell cheaply. The story has been driven principally by Venê Casagrande, who broke each stage of Porto's approach across ESPN, O Jogo and OneFootball between 11 and 14 July. Both A Bola and O Jogo have independently confirmed Flamengo's rejection of the rights offer. The sourcing is solid: two reputable Portuguese outlets plus a reliable Brazilian reporter, all pointing the same direction. The gap between the clubs is real and has not narrowed since Porto first moved. Flamengo want full control of the terms and show no appetite for a co-ownership structure at €5m. For this to complete, Porto would need to table a significantly higher, outright offer, and Flamengo would need to judge that figure acceptable for a player tied down until late 2028. Right now, this is against the odds. Porto's spending history in this bracket does provide some context. They paid €6m to Internacional in 2010 and €6m to Racing Club in 2019, and Flamengo themselves sold a player to UD Almería for €7m in 2022.
