Danilo to Palmeiras

Palmeiras have walked away from their pursuit of Danilo, the 25-year-old Botafogo midfielder. Andre Hernan reported on 23 July that the move collapsed the moment Danilo took to the pitch for Botafogo, at which point Palmeiras formally ended their interest. They had submitted three offers in total, the final one worth 160 million reais, roughly €28m. A day later, Vene Casagrande added that Palmeiras had actually put more than 180 million reais on the table at some stage, which sits at approximately €32m. Botafogo's new ownership resisted selling to a domestic rival throughout, and that resistance proved decisive. The sourcing is solid. Both Vene Casagrande and Andre Hernan are established Brazilian football journalists with strong records on Botafogo and Palmeiras business. The two accounts are consistent on the core facts: multiple bids were rejected and the pursuit is now over. With Palmeiras out and Botafogo holding a contract running to June 2029, this move is a long shot. Danilo staying at Botafogo is the far more likely outcome at this point. For any transfer to happen at all, a fresh club would need to arrive with an offer that Botafogo's new ownership considers worth accepting, and nothing in the current reporting suggests that is imminent. The fee range in discussion, €28m to €39m, is broadly in keeping with Danilo's career trajectory. Porto sold the elder Danilo to Real Madrid for €32m in 2015, and Man City later moved him to Juventus for €36m in 2019, so that bracket has precedent at the top level.
