Destiny Udogie to Roma

Quiet since 10 August 2026. Last report: Alfredo Pedulla. Probability when it went quiet: 5%.

Roma like Destiny Udogie, and the interest is real, but this is early and shaped entirely by how the two clubs want to structure any deal. The Italian side favour a loan with an option to buy, which suits a 23-year-old defender whose Tottenham contract runs until June 2030. The catch is simple: at the moment Tottenham are not open to letting him leave on those terms, so there is desire on one side and a firm door on the other. The reporting here is thin but comes from a solid source. Alfredo Pedulla, a well-regarded voice on Italian business, confirms Roma's strong liking for the player and traces the story back to Ugo Trani's reporting the previous evening. That is one credible reporter corroborating another, rather than a broad chorus, so treat it as a genuine link that is still at the whisper stage. As it stands this is a long shot. For it to move, Tottenham would have to soften on both the loan-with-option format and the idea of releasing a defender they value at around €30m and tied down for years. Nothing in the current picture suggests that shift. The interest is warm; the structure is the wall. Roma's recent spending shows the scale they work at: Sevilla to Roma for €27m, Hellas Verona to Roma for €27m in 2021, and Atalanta to Roma for €26m in 2019. A permanent Udogie, valued near €30m, would sit right in that range. A loan asks them to pay far less up front. Watch for any sign Tottenham open the door. Until they do, this stays stuck.
