Diogo Costa to Chelsea

This move fell through. Last report: Fabrizio Romano, 7 August 2026.

The link between Diogo Costa and Chelsea has fallen flat almost as quickly as it surfaced. A newspaper round-up floated the idea of the Premier League club moving for Porto's 26-year-old Portugal goalkeeper, with a €60m clause the figure attached. Within a day the story was firmly shut down. As things stand, there is no enquiry, no talks and no move. Costa remains a Porto player, tied down until June 2030. The original tease came from Sky Sports News, one of the most reliable outlets going, though even they framed it as a newspaper rumour rather than confirmed business. The rebuttal carries real weight too. Ben Jacobs, a well-sourced and trusted reporter, states plainly that Chelsea are not interested, are happy with their current goalkeepers and have made no approach. When a credible voice knocks down a story that firmly, the case for a deal thins out fast. This one is a long shot, and it is hard to build a route back. For it to revive, Chelsea would need to change their stated position on their goalkeeping department, then find room for the €60m clause. Right now neither looks close to happening. The denial is the loudest fact in the file. Chelsea have paid this kind of money before. Wolves to Chelsea cost €60m in 2024, and Leipzig to Chelsea was another €60m deal in 2023. Porto have also cashed in at this level, selling to Man City for €60m in 2025. So the fee itself is well within range. The appetite, for now, is missing. The next trigger is simple: a genuine Chelsea enquiry, which so far has not landed.
