Esequiel Barco to River

River's interest in Esequiel Barco has cooled sharply since the story first broke. Back in July, talk centred on the 27 year old midfielder wanting out of Spartak Moskva for personal reasons, with River said to have opened negotiations to bring him home. By early August, though, the tone had flipped. The same reporter who broke the story now says his information is that Barco is not playing for River or Independiente, which suggests the move has stalled or fallen apart entirely. Germán García Grova of Bolavip is the only real source here, and the shift in his own reporting is telling. He went from describing active talks and a player pushing to leave, to flatly denying a River move within two weeks. That kind of reversal from a single voice, even a credible mid-tier one, leaves this looking thin rather than corroborated. Given the source's own walk-back, this now reads as a long shot. For it to happen, River would need to reopen talks that appear to have gone cold, agree a fee somewhere in the €9m to €12m range against Barco's market value of around €16m, and get Spartak to sanction an exit. Right now none of that looks close, and the player's own reporter has effectively poured water on it. River have paid similar money before. They brought in a player from Talleres for €11m in 2024, and another from Racing Club for €8m in 2025, so a fee in the €9m to €12m bracket sits comfortably within their usual spending pattern. Watch for any fresh word from García Grova or a rival source confirming whether talks have genuinely ended, and whether Spartak give any signal on Barco's fut
