Gonzalo Sosa to Deportivo Maldonado

Quiet since 6 August 2026. Last report: German Garcia Grova. Probability when it went quiet: 8%.

Gonzalo Sosa's move from Racing Club to Deportivo Maldonado has gone from talks to done. Garcia Grova confirmed on 6 August that the 21 year old midfielder has already been unveiled as a Deportivo Maldonado player, on a one year loan with a purchase option worth 2 million dollars for of his rights. That follows an earlier report from Cesar Luis Merlo, on 27 July, that the two clubs were exchanging paperwork over exactly that structure, with a very high buy option and a sell on right retained by the Uruguayan side if Sosa is later transferred. The sourcing here is strong. Merlo carries high credibility and flagged the shape of the deal in late July, while Garcia Grova, also well regarded, then reported the presentation itself in early August. Two separate voices, telling the same story in sequence from negotiation to unveiling, is about as solid as this kind of reporting gets. With the player already presented at his new club, this sits close to certain rather than uncertain. The only thing left to firm up is the final wording of that buy option and the sell on clause, both already flagged as part of the documents exchanged between the clubs. Barring a very late collapse, this is now a matter of formal registration rather than genuine doubt. Racing Club has sold players for serious money before, including a €25m deal with Inter in 2018 and a €14m sale to Southampton in 2023. This loan, by contrast, is a modest, low cost move designed to get Sosa playing regularly rather than a marquee sale.
