Imanol Machuca to Independiente

Quiet since 1 August 2026. Last report: Cesar Luis Merlo. Probability when it went quiet: 95%.

Independiente have all but wrapped up a deal for Imanol Machuca, the 26-year-old Argentine attacker who arrives from Fortaleza. The move is described as imminent: talks reached the final stages over terminating Machuca's Fortaleza contract, which had run until December 2027, and the player is set to sign for three and a half years, through to December 2029. A fee of €1m is being discussed. One quirk stands out: Machuca will not start earning until a suspension imposed by FIFA has run its course. The story sits with Cesar Luis Merlo, a solid and well-regarded Argentine reporter who has carried it across two updates. On 22 July he flagged advanced negotiations and the outline of the contract; by 24 July he was reporting the signing as done. It is single-source rather than corroborated across several voices, but the source is reliable and the account has firmed up rather than wobbled. This one looks close to certain. The framework is agreed, the contract length is set, and the fee is modest at €1m for a player valued around €2m. What remains is the mechanics of the Fortaleza termination and the FIFA suspension detail, neither of which appears to be blocking the move. It is about as done as these things get before an official announcement. The money fits Independiente's recent habits. They paid €2m to sign from San Martín (SJ) in 2023, €2m from Athletico-PR in 2025, and €2m from Godoy Cruz back in 2016. At €1m, Machuca comes in under that usual mark. Watch for the official confirmation from Independiente and the completion of the Fortaleza contract termination.
