Jack Grealish to Sunderland

Quiet since 30 August 2026. Last report: Fabrizio Romano. Probability when it went quiet: 3%.

Sunderland's interest in Jack Grealish looks to be over before it started. For a few days last week, talk of a shock late move for the Manchester City winger gathered pace, with reports of talks over either a loan or a permanent deal. But the story has since moved on entirely, and it has moved away from Sunderland. Grealish's next club, on the latest information, is Everton, where he spent last season on loan, and a fresh loan there with a buy option is now agreed with a medical booked. The sourcing tells its own story. Fabrizio Romano, whose word on City deals carries real weight, first reported Everton and Aston Villa in contact with Grealish's camp, adding pointedly that there was nothing concrete with Sunderland. Sky Sports News and Keith Downie both floated the Sunderland angle around the same time, but neither has followed up since Romano's latest update confirmed the loan to Everton and a medical booked. That is a significant gap in corroboration for the Sunderland line. On the numbers, this one is a long shot. Everton hold the clear advantage in the reporting, and the move to Sunderland would need City's Everton loan to collapse at the medical stage, which nothing here suggests is likely. Sunderland's chance has not vanished completely, but it now sits right at the bottom of the list of realistic outcomes. Sunderland's recent transfer business, including deals for players from Brighton, Roma, Ajax and Club Brugge all around the €20m to €24m mark in 2025, shows they can move at pace when they want a player. Grealish's fee range of €18m to €29m would fit that pattern
