Jamie Gittens to Roma

This move fell through. Last report: Fabrice Hawkins, 1 September 2026.

Roma's pursuit of Jamie Gittens has stalled, and the latest word from Chelsea's camp is blunt: the winger is expected to stay put. Roma spent late August pushing hard, first for a loan, then for a paid loan with an option to buy around €55m, but Chelsea have knocked back multiple approaches. Gasperini rates Gittens his top target and the player has reportedly pushed to leave, yet Chelsea's stance has hardened rather than softened as September opened. The strongest voice here is Gianluca Di Marzio, whose credibility is high and who has tracked this from Chelsea's first rejection on 22 August through to Roma "continuing to push" on 1 September. Fabrice Hawkins then added the clearest signal yet, reporting Chelsea's rejection of an initial loan approach and describing talks as complicated. Three separate, reputable reporters converging on the same stalemate is a decent spread, even if none of them yet report a breakthrough. On the evidence here, this looks like a long shot rather than a live deal. For it to happen, Chelsea would need to reverse a position they have held firm on for over a week, Roma would need to find a structure Chelsea actually wants, and the fee gap between a cut-price loan and a €55m option would need closing. Right now every one of those conditions is unresolved, and the momentum described by Hawkins points toward Gittens staying. Chelsea bought Gittens from Dortmund for €56m in 2025, and Roma have paid big for attacking talent before, includi
