João Palhinha to Tottenham
This move fell through. Last report: Christian Falk, 10 July 2026.
João Palhinha's proposed move from Bayern München to Tottenham is over. Despite weeks of reported talks and fees of around £26m being quoted in the market, Tottenham have made their decision and pulled out of the deal. The 30-year-old Portugal midfielder, whose contract at Bayern runs until June 2028 with a club option, will not be heading to north London, at least not through this avenue. The story was broken by Christian Falk, widely regarded as one of the most reliable reporters on German football business, who stated plainly one minute ago that the deal is off and that Tottenham have made their transfer decision. Falk's track record on Bayern matters gives this report significant weight. Transfer News Live had corroborated the fee range, placing it at around £26m. With Falk's report so fresh and so direct, it is hard to see this reversing quickly. The move is, for now, dead, Tottenham have chosen to walk away rather than meet Bayern's asking price, with the fee apparently the sticking point given Palhinha's age and a market value assessed closer to £13m. A revival cannot be ruled out entirely while the window remains open, but the current position strongly favours the deal collapsing for good. Tottenham have previous when it comes to mid-range acquisitions in this bracket: their £21m signing from Barcelona in 2021 and their £21m capture from Lens in 2025 both show the club is willing to spend in this corridor, but the Palhinha fee, at around £26m for a player entering his thirties, appears to have crossed their threshold. The immediate trigger to watch is whether Bayern
