Joel Ordóñez to Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace and Club Brugge have agreed a loan with an obligation to buy for Ecuador centre-back Joel Ordóñez, 22. The fee is set at around €30m plus add-ons, Ordóñez has personally said yes to the move, all paperwork is prepared, and a medical is taking place today. Palace moved decisively to beat Aston Villa to his signature after Villa had been pursuing him following a breakdown in talks for Taylor Harwood-Bellis. The deal is structured as a loan that converts to a permanent transfer once the obligation is triggered, with the player contracted through to June 2029. Fabrizio Romano broke the agreement on 26 August and has followed up with confirmation that the medical is under way today, which is about as far along a story gets before an official announcement. Ben Jacobs corroborated the loan-with-obligation structure, Belgian journalist Pieter-Jan Calcoen backed the Club Brugge end of the deal, and Sacha Tavolieri reported the hijack angle independently. That is four credible voices pointing the same direction, with Romano the most senior of them. This is about as close to done as a transfer gets without the club tweeting the kit photo. The sole condition left is Ordóñez passing his medical, which is complicated by the fact that he is currently carrying an injury. That medical result is the only real obstacle remaining. If he clears it, the signing completes immediately. Palace have form at this price bracket.
