Newcastle United have made a formal offer for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall, 20, and been turned down. David Ornstein reported the opening proposal at €54m, which Spurs rejected. Keith Downie subsequently confirmed the two clubs have discussed numbers without reaching agreement, and placed Newcastle's latest offer at €45m against a Tottenham asking price of €59m. Since those exchanges, the signal coming out of north London is one of a Spurs renewal push rather than a departure, suggesting the gap is not merely financial but reflects a shift in Tottenham's intent.
