Luka Modrić to AC Milan

Quiet since 23 July 2026. Last report: ESPN. Probability when it went quiet: 72%.

Luka Modrić is staying at AC Milan. What looked like a straightforward extension talk has turned into a confirmed renewal through to 2027, with the club and ESPN both putting their names to it. The 40 year old Croatian will keep playing rather than retire, on wages worth around €4m, a modest number for a player of his stature but a fair reflection of where he is in his career. There is no fee involved since he already plays for Milan, so this is a pure contract story rather than a transfer in the usual sense. The sourcing here is about as strong as it gets. Fabrizio Romano broke the verbal agreement and has followed it with a second post confirming the green light from the club. Daniele Longo, a reliable name on Italian football, backed it up with detail on the wage figure and even the expected signing window over a weekend. Two well regarded voices agreeing on the substance is about as solid as transfer reporting comes. Given the club's own confirmation and ESPN's corroboration, this sits close to certain now. The only thing left is the formality of putting the signature down, which Longo suggested would happen at the weekend rather than immediately. Nothing in the reporting suggests any obstacle remains beyond that final paperwork. Modrić's career has already taken him through two significant transfers, from Dinamo Zagreb to Tottenham for €23m in 2008 and from Tottenham to Real Madrid for €35m. Those deals shaped him into the player Milan have now decided is still worth keeping on the pitch at 40. Watch for the actual signing to be made official, expected around the weeke
