Lutsharel Geertruida to RB Leipzig

Quiet since 11 June 2026. Last report: Philipp Hinze. Probability when it went quiet: 14%.

Sunderland want to turn Lutsharel Geertruida's loan into a permanent deal, but the free option they held at €18m has now expired. That leaves them negotiating from a weaker spot against RB Leipzig, who are holding out for something closer to €21m to €23m. The player himself stays out of the noise here; this is a fee argument between two clubs who both know his value, given he only left Feyenoord for Leipzig for €20m in the first place. The sourcing is solid rather than spectacular. Keith Downie and Nizaar Kinsella both reported active permanent talks within a day of each other, and Philipp Hinze followed up confirming the option had lapsed while Sunderland stayed in the race. Three separate voices agreeing on the shape of the story, even if the exact number moves between their reports, is a decent level of corroboration for a deal still short of any agreement. Leipzig know what he is worth and have shown no sign of dropping toward €18m. Other clubs circling only stiffens Leipzig's resolve, and his contract running to 2029 means there is no pressure on them to sell cheap. Leipzig paid €20m to sign him from Feyenoord, so their current €21m to €23m valuation is not far off what they themselves once paid. That gives their asking price real credibility rather than looking inflated. Watch for whether Sunderland move off their opening position toward Leipzig's range, or whether a rival bidde
