Manu Koné to Manchester United

Quiet since 27 July 2026. Last report: Fabrizio Romano. Probability when it went quiet: 7%.

Manchester United's interest in Manu Koné is real, but it has stalled at the talking stage. Agents have had concrete conversations with United, repeated across several weeks now, yet nobody has gone to Roma with an official bid. Roma want around €60m for a player valued nearer €51m, and United still need to work out how much they can actually spend on a defensive midfielder this summer. Koné himself is said to be keen, but the club-to-club front simply has not opened. Fabrizio Romano has driven almost every update here, and he has been consistent: contact with the player's camp, yes; a bid to Roma, no. That is a strong, repeated signal from the single most reliable voice in the market. Sky Sports News has added a second, independent line, describing United's interest as tentative and explicitly warning against reading it as imminent. Two credible outlets telling the same story, but both describing an early stage rather than a deal taking shape. This one sits against the odds for now. For it to move, United need financial clarity, likely from outgoings elsewhere, and then a willingness to meet or approach Roma's €60m mark. Roma have shown no sign of softening that valuation. Until a bid actually lands on Roma's desk, this is interest without infrastructure. Roma have sold big before: Liverpool paid €73m for one departure, and €42m in 2017, while Chelsea paid €35m the same year. Koné himself arrived from Mönchengladbach for €18m. A €60m ask fits Roma's pattern of demanding serious money for their better players. Watch for United's summer business elsewhere to clear space, and
