Mason Greenwood to Atalanta

Quiet since 8 July 2026. Last report: RMC Sport. Probability when it went quiet: 15%.

As things stand this is a whisper, not a negotiation. Mason Greenwood, 24 and tied to Marseille until June 2029, is admired by Atalanta's coach Gian Piero Gasperini, but admiration is the whole of it. There are no official offers on the table and no meetings with the player's father. A fee in the £44.6m, £63m range has been floated against a market value of roughly £47m, yet nothing concrete underpins it. This is theory rather than practice. The link rests on a single thread: Alfredo Pedulla, a reliable Italian voice, noting only that Greenwood is a profile Gasperini likes. Crucially, Pedulla himself stresses there are no formal offers and no contact with the family, he explicitly parks the story until it moves from theory to practice. That is one mid-strength note, not a chorus, and it deliberately cools rather than fuels the talk. The chance is slim. With Greenwood under contract until 2029, Marseille hold every card and feel no pressure to sell; Atalanta would need to open with a serious bid before anything stirs. For now it is a long shot, and other destinations, Roma chief among them, sit ahead of Atalanta in the running. Atalanta's recent spending offers context. They have paid £24m to West Ham in 2023 and £21m to Genoa in 2024, with deals from Almería (£26m) and Lecce (£21m) in the same bracket. A Greenwood fee north of £44m would dwarf their usual outlay, which only underlines how far this sits from their pattern. Watch for the first concrete trigger: an actual approach to Greenwood's representatives, a meeting with his father, or a formal bid lodged with Marseille.
