Mauro Icardi to Lazio

Quiet since 14 September 2026. Last report: Gianluca Di Marzio. Probability when it went quiet: 15%.

Lazio's interest in Mauro Icardi has gone from a whispered idea to something with real substance behind it. What started in mid-August as contact between sporting director Fabiani and the player's camp has developed into what his agent Letterio Pino now calls serious evaluation of the best project for the 33-year-old, with Lazio described as an option genuinely on the table. No fee is in play since Icardi would arrive as a free agent, but the sticking points from the start, his wages and his wish to play Champions League football, have not gone away. The reporting here is about as strong as Italian transfer journalism gets. Gianluca Di Marzio, rated at 89 credibility and the most active voice on this story, has filed three separate updates across two weeks, each showing gradual movement rather than a single throwaway line. Manuele Baiocchini, at 85 credibility, was first to flag the contact between Fabiani and Icardi's agent back on August 12. Two reliable outlets tracking the same story over time is about as solid as pre-agreement sourcing gets. Call this a long shot for now, not a dead one. Icardi taking time to choose his next project, as Di Marzio put it, tells you he is weighing rivals or simply weighing whether Lazio can offer European football at all. Wages and Champions League ambition remain the obstacles. For this to happen, either Lazio finds a way to sell Europa League or Conference football as good enough, or Icardi's options elsewhere dry up. Lazio have paid for attacking reinforcements before, including €5m for a forward from Rostov and €4m for one from Juven
