Moritz Nicolas to Newcastle

Newcastle's reported interest in Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas has been firmly denied by everyone involved. Gladbach sporting director Rouven Schröder stated publicly on 13 July that the club have not received any offer for the 28-year-old, who is under contract until 2029. Mönchengladbach consider Nicolas their undisputed number one and have given no indication they would entertain a sale. The reports linking Newcastle to Nicolas originate from outlets including BILD and Sky Germany, with a €12m bid figure repeatedly cited. Crucially, Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sport Germany, who initially appeared in the fee ledger, has since publicly walked back the story, stating on 10 July that the rumours are "wide of the mark" and that there are "no talks, no negotiations, no interest registered" and "no €12m offer on the table." The sourcing is therefore thin and actively contradicted by one of the reporters whose name was attached to it. Given those denials from both the selling club's sporting director and a credible German football journalist, this is a long shot at present. For the move to have any life, Newcastle would need to submit a formal, acknowledged offer that Gladbach choose to consider, which is some distance from where things stand.
