Phil Neumann to Hull City

Quiet since 7 August 2026. Last report: Rudy Galetti. Probability when it went quiet: 8%.

Hull City have registered interest in Phil Neumann, the 29-year-old Birmingham City centre-back who ranked among the Championship's standout defenders last season. There is no bid on the table yet, only an early inquiry, with any deal framed around a €2m to €3m fee that sits right on his market value. Neumann is under contract at Birmingham until June 2028, so this is Hull testing the water rather than a negotiation in motion. He started last week's win over Barcelona, a sign he is far from surplus at his current club. The story comes from Rudy Galetti, carrying an exclusive tag. He is a reasonably reliable voice, and his word here has weight, but this rests on a single source rather than a chorus. Nobody else has corroborated it yet, which keeps the whole thing at the interest stage. This one is against the odds. For it to move, Hull would need to turn interest into a formal offer, and Birmingham would have to be willing to let a defender they clearly value walk with three years still on his deal. A contract that runs to 2028 hands Birmingham all the leverage. Right now the pieces pointing towards a move are thin. Hull have spent in this bracket before. They brought a Man Utd U21 player in for €3m in 2013, and paid €2m each for arrivals from Chelsea U21, Burton Albion and Monaco. A €2m to €3m outlay for Neumann fits their history neatly. Watch for a first concrete bid, and for a second reporter to back Galetti's claim. Until then it stays a whisper.
