Said El Mala to Borussia Dortmund

This move fell through. Last report: Florian Plettenberg, 14 August 2026.

Borussia Dortmund are on the verge of submitting a formal €55m offer (€50m fixed, €5m in add-ons) to FC Köln for 19-year-old attacker Said El Mala. No written bid has yet landed in Cologne, but BVB have signalled they are prepared to go beyond Köln's stated pain threshold of €50m. El Mala himself has already agreed personal terms with Dortmund and is waiting for the clubs to settle the fee. This is corroborated across two reliable and well-sourced reporters. Florian Plettenberg, who carries a strong track record on Bundesliga business, broke the €55m structure on 11 August. Patrick Berger, equally well-connected in German football, confirmed on the same day that BVB intend to go all-in and that Köln had not yet received a written proposal. The sourcing is solid, not speculative. The picture is encouraging for a deal but not yet resolved. El Mala's personal terms are done, which matters enormously. Köln have rejected bids of roughly €40m and €45m already, yet the incoming €55m package sits above the threshold Köln themselves named. The gap has narrowed sharply. What remains is whether Köln accept a structure where €5m depends on bonuses, or hold out for a higher fixed element. The chance of completion is real and meaningful, held up only by that final fee negotiation. For context, Köln's biggest recorded sales are modest by comparison: €17m to Benfica in 2026 and €15m to Arsenal in 2012. A completed deal at €55m would comfortably eclipse every previous Köln sale on record, which explains why the club are not rushing to accept anything less than full value. The concrete trigg
