Tiemoué Bakayoko to Celtic

This move fell through. Last report: Anthony Joseph, 9 October 2026.

The move is dead for now. Tiemoué Bakayoko, the 32-year-old France midfielder, trained with Celtic over the international break as the Scottish champions ran the rule over the free agent, a former Chelsea and AC Milan man. Having looked him over, Celtic have decided against offering a deal. He used the club's facilities during the trial period, but nothing has followed. On paper this would have cost nothing, a free transfer, which made the look understandable. The decision, though, has gone the other way. The reporting here is clean and comes from a single, strong source. Anthony Joseph, who carries a high credibility rating, filed both the original line that Bakayoko was training with Celtic and the update that they will not be offering him terms. Two posts from the same reliable voice, published the same day. There is no competing or contradicting account in the file, so the picture is consistent even if it rests on one reporter. This is a long shot, and the reason is simple: the club that would do the signing has already said no after seeing him up close. A trial that ends without an offer is about as clear a signal as you get. For it to revive, Celtic would need to change their assessment, and nothing in the reporting points that way. Celtic have paid real money for midfield before, €10m from PSG in 2018 and €16m from Benfica in 2022. Against those outlays, a free trialist on the wrong side of 30 was always a different kind of bet. Watch for any Celtic move for an alternative in the role, or word that Bakayoko has found a club elsewhere.
