Vitinha to Rennes

This move fell through. Last report: Gianluigi Longari, 26 August 2026.

The move is off. Vitinha, the 26-year-old Portugal attacker on Genoa's books, has turned down Rennes and made clear he wants to stay put. The Ligue 1 side put a proposal to the forward, and he said no. His contract in Genoa runs until 30 June 2028, so there is no pressure of an expiring deal forcing his hand. As things stand, the player himself is the roadblock, and a rejected offer is where this ends unless something fundamental changes. The report comes from Gianluigi Longari, a well-regarded voice with a solid reliability record. That is a decent source, but it is a single one. Nobody else has corroborated it, so this rests on one credible link rather than a chorus. When the news is a collapse rather than a breakthrough, one trusted reporter is enough to take seriously, though a second voice would firm it up. This is a long shot to revive. The obstacle is the player's own preference, and that is the hardest kind to shift. For it to come back to life, Rennes would need to return with terms attractive enough to change Vitinha's mind, and the player would have to soften his stance on staying in Genoa. Neither looks close right now. Genoa know how to sell for real money. They banked €32m from Juventus in 2019 and €28m from Tottenham in 2024, so a serious bid can move them. Vitinha himself commanded €42m when Porto sold him to PSG in 2022. The valuations are not the problem here. The player is. Watch for a second, improved approach from Rennes, or any hint that Vitinha reconsiders wanting to remain in Genoa.
