Pape Matar Sarr to Monaco

Monaco have made an initial approach to Pape Matar Sarr's representatives, sounding out a possible loan for the 23-year-old Senegal midfielder. The conversations, by all accounts, covered the sporting project and salary rather than any fee, which tells you how early this is. Crucially, there has been no engagement from Tottenham Hotspur, the club that holds his registration on a deal running to 30 June 2030. That length of contract hands Tottenham full leverage to say no, and a player valued at around €30m is not one they need to move. The link comes from Fabrizio Romano, about as trusted a voice as this business has, who reported on 26 August 2026 that Monaco had opened talks with Sarr's camp over a loan. That is strong sourcing for what it is. But it is a single item describing one side making contact, not a negotiation between the two clubs. This is a long shot as things stand. For it to gather pace, Tottenham would have to sanction a loan they have no obligation to grant, and Monaco would need to move from talking to Sarr's people to talking to the selling club. Neither has happened. Galatasaray sit ahead of Monaco among his live links. Monaco have paid real money for midfielders before: CSKA Moscow to Monaco at €30m, Porto to Monaco at €25m in 2013, and FC Nantes to Monaco at €25m. A loan, though, is a different proposition entirely, and Sarr cost Tottenham €17m from FC Metz. The next real trigger is any sign of Tottenham entering the conversation. Until then, this stays an approach and nothing more.
