The best young players in the world (under 21)

By the Transfer Tracker Data Desk · Updated 16 October 2026

Top wonderkid: Lamine Yamal · Top 10 combined: €975m · Average age: 19.4

The wonderkids the biggest clubs are already fighting over. Every player here is 21 or younger as of 17 October 2026, ranked on the market value the game places on them today, led by Lamine Yamal (19) at €230m. In an era of nine-figure fees, this is where the next ones are.

Real Madrid has 3 players in the top 20, the clearest sign of a recruitment model built on buying and developing talent early rather than paying peak-value fees.

How this ranking is put together

Players aged 21 or under, ranked by current market value. Ages are calculated from each player’s date of birth against today, so the list ages itself: a player drops off the day he turns 22.

Who is the best young player in the world?

By market value, Lamine Yamal, aged 19, is the most valuable under-21 player in the world at €230m.

What counts as a wonderkid?

For this ranking, any player aged 21 or under. Market value is used to order them because it captures both current ability and the resale ceiling clubs are paying for.

Why are young players worth so much now?

Squads are valued as assets. A 19-year-old with years of resale runway and room to improve is worth more to a modern club than an established 30-year-old of similar current ability, and the fees reflect it.
